Nintendo: Huge price cut on the 3DS handheld game console coming August 12
The newest entry to the DS line is the 3DS—a game machine that offers 3D gaming without the need for the use of special glasses.The $249 dollar investment was either too much or wasn’t worth it for prospective buyers and sales have been very disappointing for Nintendo. To boost sales, Nintendo is going to cut the price for this game machine. The price will drop from $249 to a more attractive $169 on August 12. Nintendo hopes the new price point will help move the 3DS to the forefront.
The machine was launched four months ago. To date, there have been 4.32 million units sold. PlayAtMcd.com 2010 McDonalds Monopoly Game Launched
What a difference a year makes! Last year I covered the domain name McDonalds® used to bring its super popular Monopoly® game "online" with and that domain name was PlayAtMcd.com. So they are using the same domain name this year as used in 2009 but in a totally different way.
PlayAtMcd.com was simply used as a redirect last year. Not only a redirect, they were forwarding the traffic to a 3rd party service Promotions.com and a special landing page for the game. A big NO NO IMO!
Why a No No?
A.) They did not get indexed in search engines last year due to the forward on the promoted domain PlayAtMcd.com. This hurt them not only then but now
B.) They sent a TON of traffic basically to Promotions.com and helped THEM in search engines and not PlayAtMcd.com or any other McDonald’s websites
C.) The forward may have confused some people
2010 brings a new year for the McDonald’s Monopoly game and almost like they read my article on DotWeekly last year for PlayAtMcd.com , they have launched the game and website as a stand alone site!
This is an extremely popular game for McDonalds and a lot of money is spent to promote the game, so not easily allowing "searchers" to find the site was a big mistake but at least they corrected it this year. The website already is ranking for a lot of keywords and they will likely see a huge difference in traffic.
A couple downfalls yet to be addressed.
The domain names term could be a little confusing. Play At Mcd.com . This can lead people to think, if you would like to PLAY, you can play at MCD.com. Play at MCD.com is all together. Many people may simply visit MCD.com instead of including PlayAt to MCD.com. Not that many people will do that but a decent amount will. The good thing for McDonalds, they own MCD.com but are not using it at all! The domain name simply doesn’t resolve in a web browsers. This is a mistake because they could be at least sending traffic from that domain name to PlayAtMcd.com or simply to McDonalds.com .
you know you ask some one to go to a web site to play and you cant enter your # to see if you win at every MCD you see posters all over the store 1 in 4 is a winner that’s a lie i bought over 21 items and finally got a winner for some BS called snap-fish is this like in the 80 or 90 when the monopoly was a scam! i think its the same now.
