Largest swagelining project in Australia completed

The pipeline rehabilitation project involved 4,630 m of water lining the existing 24-inch nominal diameter main that passes under one of the busiest roads in Adelaide. The contract A4 million was the second such project conducted by the companies of South Australia's water utility, SA Water, following a similar project in Adelaide in 2007.

Swagelining Limited Chief Executive Stephen Barnes said "swagelining is to extend the life of technology for new and existing pipelines. It offers the ideal solution if techniques such as open trenches and burst are not suitable.

"Setup Project stresses the implementation of polymer coating prints up to 600 m, turn swagelining through scanning, and completion of the project on time and on budget."

Swagelining is a very versatile technology, with coating thicknesses from project to project. The project used a 594 mm Adelaide polyethylene (PE) liner 100 with a wall thickness of 56 mm to meet the water needs to SA with a ship full structural capacity.However, another water project was recently completed in the UK, where the requirement was a thin coating of semi-structural, which saw a 1016 100 mm PE liner with a wall thickness of only 20 mm being installed.

SA Water Asset Manager David Jaensch said "Using innovative technology swagelining resulted in a significant reduction of impact on the community and the environment, with only small sections of road to be closed for a short time to be unearthed. "We also benefited from substantial cost savings in terms of restoration of road compared with open methods of trenches.

What Happens to the Pressure rating when your PE Fittings are ...

It is important to be aware that reductions occur to the pressure rating of PE100 fittings fabricated from PE100 pipe.      A de-rating of the maximum allowable operating pressure applies once a workshop fabricated fitting is joined to the pipeline, and different PE fittings geometries require differing de-rating factors.   The information supplied in this blog relates to fabricated PE fittings, manufactured using AS/NZS 4130 PE pipe. Consideration must also be applied to the ambient temperature and fluid media temperature when de-rating the PE pipeline system.  As the temperature to which the PE pipe and fitting is exposed increases above the reference temperature (20°C) the long-term hydrostatic strength decreases. Consequently, the pipe and fitting PN rating must be also be de-rated to suit the operating temperature as required.
