At Home with Marni: Change your mind frequently? Here's a wall covering for you

Afraid of commitment? Check. Don't know where you'll be living next year? Check.

Have kids? Check.

I'm three for three, but if you answered yes to even one of those questions, you're going to love this: peel and stick wall coverings - stylish, cheap wall décor that lets you avoid commitment, that moves when you do, and that you can easily change as your tastes change or your kids grow.

Basically, it's wallpaper with training wheels.

I recently stumbled across two companies that sell these products. Casart Coverings (www.casartcoverings.com) offers richly textured stick-on vinyls that mimic linen, wood, raw silk, hand-painted color washes and botanical murals. "They're like slipcovers for your walls," says the company's spokesperson.

WallPops (www.wall-pops.com) features a more whimsical selection of trendy patterns, stripes, geometrics, patterns and expressions and images that let you accent walls with mix-and-match shapes.

"The product uses the same technology as Post-It notes," said Paula Berberian, creative director for Brewster Home Fashions, a venerable wallpaper company that launched the WallPops line six years ago. "So it leaves no sticky residue, and lets you change your mind and reuse it."

At first, I thought this sounded, well, tacky. Then I test-drove some samples. Turns out, the removable, reusable coverings are great for those who get stuck when facing a wall-covering decision. And who doesn't?

Deciding to put up something so big, so permanent, so costly and so potentially regrettable is so terrifying that home decorators dodge the effort like pledge-money Sundays.

The wall coverings are also a good option for folks in transition - renters, movers, sellers, squatters - who don't want to invest money in their house, but still want to personalize it. You can't take fancy wallpaper, or hand-painted faux finishes, with you when you move like you can this stuff.

As a renter, I'm not supposed to inflict structural harm, which for years has been my specialty. Renters can only make non-permanent disasters, which I also excel in.

Besides not being able to permanently deface my walls, I live with a teenager, whose trend meter is on high alert.

My daughter and I looked through the collections together. We contemplated zebra prints, patterns that echoed Vera Bradley, and designs that came with bling - stick-on rhinestones - until she homed in on a black and white paisley motif called Bali, which I also liked. Does anyone know a good, but cheap bed and breakfast in seaside ...

There are a few B&B’s in the area very close to Seaside. The rates offer good value for the amenities and proximity to Seaside & will vary, depending on the time of year for your visit. The sites we just checked out (see below) do offer a few accomodations for slightly more than $100, but again depends on availability and time of year.

We have a wonderful 30-A bike trail that makes getting to the beach or Seaside a pleasant and fun way to experience the area.
